Founder’s Month – A Time to Honor Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee October is a very special month in the ATA. It’s when we take the time to honor and remember our founder, Eternal Grand Master Haeng Ung Lee. After 64 years of humanitarian efforts and achievements and a valiant battle against cancer, Eternal Grand Master Lee passed away on October 5, 2000. Eternal Grand Master dedicated his life to helping others. His philanthropic work benefitted organizations such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and many, many individuals. He lived his motto, “Today not possible, tomorrow possible” every day. Although he has been gone from us for several years, he continues to inspire, motivate and change lives. Through all the ATA schools around the world, more than 300,000 members are improving their lives, spirits and bodies through the study of Songahm Taekwondo. Through the H.U. Lee Memorial Foundation, established in his honor, hundreds of young people have received scholarships to help continue their education and go to college. We hope you’ll take a few moments this October to honor and remember the amazing man who continues to do so much for so many.
Founder’s Month Activities Are you looking for some ideas for activities you can do in your school in honor of Founder’s Month? If so, you’ve come to the right place. We have compiled these ideas from members of the Lee family, ATA school owners and instructors and staff at headquarters. We hope you’ll use some of these ideas to share the life and legacy of Eternal Grand Master with your students. We would love to hear your Founder’s Month ideas! Please share them with us at hulf@ataonline.com.
Songahm 1 … from ATA Headquarters to Korea As a symbol of our gratitude to Eternal Grand Master and his country of origin, ATA instructors and members can help us complete Songahm 1 all the way to Seoul, Korea during Founder’s Month! It’s 6,842 miles, or 36 million feet, from ATA Headquarters in Little Rock, AR. It takes 36 feet to complete Songahm 1 in all four directions. To get to Korea, we need to do Songahm 1 four ways one million times. Each of our 1,000 ATA schools and clubs needs to do the form 1,000 times – that’s only 50 students doing the form 20 times during the whole month of October! If you’re willing to help us achieve this goal, send us an email (hulf@ataonline.com) and keep us posted on your participation. You can also send us pictures from your classes. We’ll keep everyone updated on our progress to Korea!
